Scorpions usually do not sting their prey. They first raise their tails and the stinger at the end of the tail to signal that they are ready to strike. In most cases this is enough to scare off most potential predators. If the predator still persists, the scorpion will lower its stinger on to the predator and insert the stinger into it. This is usually poisonous and the poison paralyzes the predator. In the case of humans, the poison affects the circulatory system and should be treated immediately.
